The world's first fiber tape was invented by 3M in the United States. In 1930, Richard Drew, a young 3M engineer, invented Scotch tape, which was later named glass tape. Fiber tape is an adhesive tape product made of polyester film as the base material, reinforced with glass fiber or polyester fiber braid, and coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Some companies will also choose BOPP instead of PET base film to reduce costs.

Fiber tape is an adhesive tape product made of polyester film as the base material, reinforced glass fiber thread or polyester fiber braid, and coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Fiber tape has extremely high tensile strength, wear resistance, scratch resistance, and strong load-bearing capacity, which is more than ten times that of ordinary tape. Fiber tape has excellent wear resistance and moisture resistance, strong breaking strength, and the unique pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has excellent long-lasting adhesion and special properties, making it widely used.

Main uses of fiber tape:

1. Packaging of household appliances: No residue fiber tape has the characteristics of neat appearance, strong adhesion, no residual glue, high strength, and not easy to deform when shearing. The specially configured high-performance adhesive layer can ensure that it has suitable adhesion on most materials and does not flow residual glue after removal, leaving no oil print marks, etc. At this stage, it has been widely used in heavy packaging, component fixing or bundling in furniture, wood, steel, shipbuilding, machinery, electrical appliances and other industries.

2. Pad/carton transportation; carton packaging;

3. Packaging of metal and wooden furniture: Pad/carton transportation;

4. Some double-sided mesh fiber tapes are currently used in the door and window sealing strip industry (special high-strength glue is applied on both sides of the fiber tape).

Here is some basic knowledge about the maintenance of fiber tape:

1. Fiber tape should be stored in a warehouse to avoid sun exposure and rain; it should not come into contact with acid, alkali, oil, and organic solvents, and should be kept clean and dry. It should be kept 1m away from the device and the room temperature should be between -15℃ and 40℃.

2. It is best to use a crane when loading and unloading the conveyor belt, and then use a rigging with a crossbeam to lift it steadily to avoid damaging the belt edge. Avoid rough loading and unloading to cause loose rolls and throw-off.

3. Fiber tape should be placed in rolls, not folded, and should be turned over once a quarter if stored for too long.

4. Fiber tapes of different varieties, specifications, strengths, and layers should not be connected (grouped) together for use.

5. Conveyor belt joints should be hot-vulcanized as much as possible to improve stability and maintain a high effective strength.

6. The types and specifications of rubber fiber tapes should be reasonably selected according to application requirements and specific conditions.

7. The conveyor roller diameter of the conveyor and the minimum pulley diameter of the conveyor belt should meet the relevant requirements. When the conveyor is equipped with baffles and cleaning devices, the wear of the fiber tape should be prevented.

8. Do not let the fiber tape snake or creep. Keep the drag roller and vertical roller flexible and the tension should be moderate.

9. When the fiber tape is initially damaged during application, the cause should be found and repaired immediately to prevent adverse effects.

10. Cleanliness is the basic condition for the fiber tape to maintain good operation. External substances will affect the eccentricity, tension difference and even breakage of the belt.

Tips for using tape:

The bonding strength depends on the contact area between the adhesive surface and the bonded surface, so appropriate pressure and time can improve the bonding strength.

The surface of the bonded material should be kept clean and free of oil and dirt. If necessary, it can be cleaned with solvents such as isopropyl alcohol and acetone.

The best bonding operating environment temperature is room temperature. At lower temperatures, it becomes more difficult to bond due to the harder film.
